Portrait of Young Man

Jason S.

"I met Jeff at a personal low point when I didn’t know who I was anymore. He helped me remember my worth as a person, accept my past, and figure out who I could become in the future. I’m so grateful to have found such a talented counselor!

I had suffered from addiction all my life. By the time I met Jeff, I couldn’t recall much of anything positive about myself, my life, or my family. Jeff helped my family and me get back on track. Our family dynamic changed wholly for the better, and I have maintained sobriety through these several years."

My Story

Licensed Professional Counselor
Master's in Professional counseling with a Specialization in Trauma, Abuse, and Deprivation
EMDR Certified
NeuroAffective Relational Model Certified and current Training Assistant
Brainspotting Certified

I hold a Master’s Degree in Professional Counseling with a Specialization in Trauma, Abuse, and Deprivation; a Master Therapist Certification in the Neuroaffective Relationship Model, a model for treating Developmental Trauma/C-PTSD; and an EMDR Certification. I have a passion for treating all aspects of mental, emotional, and behavioral health issues and an ardor for treating PTSD, Developmental Trauma, Complex PTSD, and “little t” trauma.

My experience includes serving as the Clinical Director of The Augustine Recovery Center in Saint Augustine, Florida; Director of Family Programs/Trauma Therapist at The Refuge-A Healing Place in Ocklawaha, Florida, a specialized 90+ day trauma treatment center; Lead Therapist at the Adolescent Substance Abuse Program in Phoenix, Arizona; and as the Assistant Director of a hospital Behavioral Health Department.

After receiving specialized education, training, and experience and knowing that healing is possible in these areas, I knew I wanted to return to Alaska to be able to work with Alaskans suffering with these issues. There is something special about the resilient spirit of Alaskans and their ability to survive and thrive.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences.  Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of psychotherapy that once took years to make a difference. It is widely assumed that severe emotional pain requires a long time to heal.  EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma much as the body recovers from physical trauma. The NeuroAffective Relational Model

The Attention You Always Deserved

The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) is a cutting-edge model for addressing attachment, relational and developmental trauma, by working with the attachment patterns that cause life-long psychobiological symptoms and interpersonal difficulties. These early, unconscious patterns of disconnection deeply affect our identity, emotions, physiology, behavior and relationships. Learning how to work simultaneously with these diverse elements is a radical shift that has profound clinical implications for healing complex trauma.  As such, NARM is positioned to become an invaluable treatment option for the Trauma-Informed Care movement as we gain greater understanding of the nature of adverse childhood experience (ACEs).

Brainspotting

"Where you look affects how you feel."

Brainspotting (BSP) makes use of this natural phenomenon through its use of relevant eye positions. This helps the BSP therapist locate, focus, process and release a wide range of emotionally and bodily-based conditions. BSP is also a brain-based tool to support the therapy relationship. We believe that BSP taps into and harnesses the body’s natural self-scanning, self-healing ability. When a Brainspot is stimulated, the deep brain appears to reflexively signal the therapist that the source of the problem has been found. BSP can also be used to find and strengthen our natural resources and resilience. BSP is designed as a therapeutic tool that can be integrated into many of the healing modalities.  strengthen our natural resources and resilience. BSP is designed as a therapeutic tool that can be integrated into many of the healing modalities. BSP is even more powerful when used with the enhancement of BioLateral Sound CDs.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long will the process take?

There usually is no set length of treatment. Therapy can last anywhere from a couple of sessions to several months or even years. It all depends on what you want and need. Some people come to therapy with a very specific problem they need to solve and might find that two or three sessions are sufficient. Other people come to therapy with more complicated issues they are grappling with and may feel they need a few months or more to understand and resolve their issues. Other people come with long-standing problems or difficult feelings and may benefit from longer-term therapy.
Regardless of why you are seeking therapy or the type of therapy you are doing, it is important to remember that, ultimately, it is your decision as to when you stop therapy. If you are unsure about what you need/want by way of length of treatment, you might raise the question with your therapist to get his/her thoughts. It can also be helpful to discuss your goals of therapy with your therapist. Clarifying what you want from therapy can help you figure out if you have met your goals and when you are ready to stop therapy.

How do I schedule an appointment?

Scheduling an appointment is easy. Call or email us your first and last name, your email address, and your date of birth. We will send you a link to our portal, where you can find our forms and schedule an appointment.

Will my health insurance cover therapy?

To address the importance of and demand for sustaining mental wellness, most insurance companies offer some coverage for mental health services. But there are large differences between the benefits health insurers provide and the out-of-pocket costs you might be required to pay.

Your health insurance plan’s website should contain information about your coverage and costs you can expect. Since insurers offer a variety of plans, make sure you’re logged on and viewing your specific insurance plan.

If you need additional information, call the toll-free number on the back of your insurance card and ask questions about the types of therapeutic services you can expect coverage for, as well as any out-of-pocket costs you may incur. If you have a diagnostic code, that may help you get accurate information.

Things that might affect when insurance coverage kicks in:

  • Some services may require pre-authorization before you can obtain coverage for them.

  • After meeting a deductible. You may also have to meet an out-of-pocket deductible before your plan starts to cover therapy.
